Engagement & Fees
Transparent, straightforward terms — so you know exactly what to expect before we begin.
Tracecraft operates on a straightforward engagement model. We discuss your situation, assess what investigation can realistically accomplish, and agree on scope and compensation before any work begins. There are no surprises.
Compensation
Tracecraft charges an hourly rate for investigative services. The applicable rate is discussed and agreed upon during the initial consultation, prior to any engagement. Total costs will vary based on the nature, complexity, and geographic scope of the work.
Tracecraft does not work on contingency. Our obligation is to the truth — not to a particular outcome. Contingency arrangements compromise investigative objectivity and are inconsistent with our professional standards.
All compensation terms are documented in a written engagement agreement executed prior to the commencement of work.
Retainer
A retainer is required prior to the start of any engagement. The retainer amount is determined based on the estimated scope of work and is applied against billable hours. Clients are invoiced periodically as the retainer is drawn down, and a replenishment retainer may be required for extended engagements. Unused retainer funds are returned upon conclusion of the engagement.
Travel & Expenses
When travel is required, the following reimbursement standards apply:
Company Vehicle
Reimbursed at the U.S. GSA personally owned vehicle (POV) mileage rate — approximately $0.76 per mile — covering fuel and vehicle maintenance.
Airfare
Reimbursed at the prevailing Business Class airfare rate.
Rental Vehicle
Reimbursed at prevailing private rates. Tracecraft reserves the right to select vehicles classified at minimum as Standard Size to accommodate equipment, gear, and personnel.
Lodging
Tracecraft will request GSA-rate discounts where available. Tracecraft reserves the right to select specific accommodations based on operational requirements.
Per Diem — Meals & Incidentals
Reimbursed at GSA per diem rates. Full rates apply on full travel days; 75% applies on the first and last days of travel.
Specialized Equipment
Certain engagements require specialized investigative equipment — surveillance systems, technical countermeasures detection tools, or forensic hardware. Equipment costs are disclosed in advance and billed at cost.
Applicable Taxes
Investigative services rendered in Texas are subject to applicable state and local taxes. Tax obligations are disclosed in the engagement agreement.
When Can Work Begin?
Work begins upon execution of the engagement agreement and receipt of the required retainer. In urgent matters, Tracecraft will make every effort to expedite this process. Contact us directly to discuss your timeline.
Make a Payment
Securely submit a case fund payment toward your active engagement.
Payments are processed securely through GoDaddy Payments. Enter the amount agreed upon with your investigator. For questions about your balance or retainer status, contact us directly.
