Why Engage Us?

Choosing the right investigator is not a commodity decision. The credentials, court standing, and operational depth your investigator brings determine the outcome of your matter. Here is why Tracecraft stands in a category of one.

The Tracecraft Difference

Most private investigators are former local law enforcement officers with limited investigative training. Dave Klimek is a retired FBI Special Agent who spent his career working the most complex federal criminal matters in the country — government fraud, organized crime, crimes against children, public corruption, and human trafficking. As the FBI Case Agent, he planned, coordinated, and commanded a 500+ person joint interagency operation with the FBI, IRS, and USPIS — with law enforcement personnel flown in from across the United States to participate in the DFW Metroplex-based enforcement operations, which executed simultaneous search and arrest warrants at 18 enforcement sites, including law firms (pursuant to the crime-fraud exception) and medical facilities — resulting in the indictment and simultaneous arrest of 22 subjects in a multi-national organized crime fraud ring. During the final years of his FBI tenure, he served on the Child Abduction Rapid Deployment (CARD) team — responding to Amber Alerts as a member of the FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking squad. He also served as the FBI Dallas Division's Human Trafficking Task Force Coordinator, embedded with the Dallas Police Department's High Risk Victims and Trafficking Unit. It should be noted that Tracecraft Special Investigations, LLC does not accept human trafficking cases — those matters are more appropriately and most effectively handled by sworn law enforcement. However, the deep experience gained working both sex and labor trafficking matters at the federal level has profoundly shaped this firm's commitment to victim advocacy, and informs the way Tracecraft approaches every case: with a genuine desire to help victims whenever possible, while maintaining the investigative neutrality and objectivity that the work demands. That is not a background you will find at most PI firms.

Beyond his career as a former FBI Special Agent — with deep knowledge, training, and experience at the federal level — Dave holds the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation, is a Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI-FTER), a Certified Criminal Defense Specialist (CCDS), a qualified Expert Witness in State and Federal Court, and currently serves as President of the North Texas Private Investigators Association (NTPIA). These are not honorary titles — they represent tested, court-recognized expertise.

When you engage Tracecraft, you are not hiring a generalist. You are retaining an elite investigator and security consultant whose credentials, tactical training, and professional standing place him in a category of one in the North Texas market. Dave has served on FBI command posts alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement partners during post-9/11 counterterrorism operations, the Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster, Super Bowl XLV, high-profile jail breaks, murders, kidnappings, and active bank robberies — the kind of real-world critical incident experience that cannot be taught in a classroom. He also led teams conducting White House Special Inquiry background investigations, vetting candidates selected for some of the highest positions of trust and confidence in the United States Government. His investigations have withstood the highest levels of legal scrutiny — including review and affirmation by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. In one notable engagement, Dave testified as a qualified expert witness in a Texas State Court murder jury trial on self-defense and the reasonable and appropriate use of deadly force — helping the defense secure a just acquittal for a defendant who had been facing life in prison. Dave has personally investigated individual fraud cases involving hundreds of millions of dollars. If your matter is serious — regardless of its complexity, scale, or sensitivity — there is a very good chance that Tracecraft Special Investigations can handle it. We take the cases that demand the highest standard — and we deliver.

Dave Klimek, former FBI Special Agent and Principal Investigator

Dave Klimek — Former FBI Special Agent, Principal Investigator

Choosing the right investigator is not a commodity decision. The credentials, court standing, and operational depth your investigator brings to the table determine the quality of the intelligence you receive — and the outcome of your matter.

Former FBI Special Agent

Dave Klimek is a former FBI Special Agent — Dallas Division — with deep knowledge, training, and experience at the federal level. He investigated government fraud, organized crime, public corruption, crimes against children, and human trafficking. That depth of federal investigative experience is not a background available at most PI firms.

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)

The CFE is one of the most respected designations in fraud examination and financial investigation. Combined with FBI-level financial crimes experience, it positions Tracecraft as the premier choice for complex fraud and financial matters in North Texas.

Court-Qualified Expert Witness

Dave Klimek is a qualified Expert Witness in both State and Federal Court. His investigations have withstood the highest levels of legal scrutiny — including review and affirmation by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Your investigator has already proven his work at the appellate level.

NTPIA President & Industry Leader

Dave currently serves as President of the North Texas Private Investigators Association (NTPIA) and is a former Chairperson. He is a recognized Subject Matter Expert and prolific public speaker across multiple investigative disciplines. Professional affiliations also include NCISS, TALI, the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI (SFSAFBI), the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), FBI InfraGard, the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce, the Denton County Chamber of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Elite Security Consultation

Beyond investigation, Tracecraft provides security consultation informed by FBI tactical training and real-world command post experience — including active shooter response (ALERRT), tactical vehicle operations (TEVOC), close quarters protocols (CQB), and critical incident management. Dave Klimek has served on FBI command posts alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement partners during post-9/11 counterterrorism operations, the Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster, Super Bowl XLV, high-profile jail breaks, murders, and kidnappings.

Specialized Certifications

CFE, CFI-FTER (Certified Forensic Interviewer), CCDS (Certified Criminal Defense Specialist), Certified Legal Process Server, and former FBI Principal Defensive Tactics Instructor. These credentials represent tested, specialized expertise — not general PI licensing.

FBI Behavioral & Surveillance Expertise

Dave served as FBI BAU Field Coordinator for the Dallas Division and as a CIRG-certified SOG surveillance agent with interstate deployments. These are capabilities that translate directly to complex, sensitive private-sector engagements.

Direct Principal Access

You will work directly with Dave Klimek — not a junior associate, not a subcontractor. Every case is managed personally by the most credentialed investigator in the engagement.
