How Do We Investigate?

Our investigative methodology is built on decades of federal law enforcement experience, rigorous training, and a commitment to legal and ethical standards.

Every investigation conducted by Tracecraft Special Investigations follows a disciplined, systematic process designed to produce accurate, actionable, and legally defensible results.

Our Methodology

Tracecraft Special Investigations employs a comprehensive suite of investigative techniques developed over three decades of federal and private-sector experience. Every tool, technique, and tactic is deployed within strict legal and ethical boundaries — because evidence gathered improperly is evidence that cannot be used.

We combine traditional investigative fieldwork with modern open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques, specialized database access, digital forensics, and the kind of human intelligence tradecraft that can only be developed through years of real-world federal law enforcement experience.

01

Initial Consultation

Every engagement begins with a free, confidential consultation. We listen carefully to understand your situation, assess the legal predication for investigation, and determine the best course of action.

02

Case Assessment & Planning

We conduct a thorough assessment of your case, identify investigative objectives, and develop a strategic plan. We discuss scope, timeline, and estimated costs before any work begins.

03

Engagement Agreement & Retainer

Once the plan is approved, we execute a formal client engagement agreement and collect a retainer. This protects both parties and ensures we can begin work immediately.

04

Active Investigation

Our investigators deploy a range of techniques including surveillance, OSINT research, database queries, interviews, field work, neighborhood canvasses, and digital forensics — always within legal and ethical boundaries.

05

Evidence Collection & Preservation

All evidence is identified, collected, documented, and preserved pursuant to legal requirements. Chain of custody is maintained throughout to ensure admissibility in legal proceedings.

06

Analysis & Reporting

Findings are analyzed objectively and compiled into a detailed investigative report. We advise clients on the status of findings throughout the investigation and present conclusions clearly.

07
